FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

December 12, 2019 – Snowmass Village, Colo. – Beginning today, Village Shuttle riders have a new tool in their pocket. The Town of Snowmass Village has announced Transit as the official mobility app for Snowmass Village, which will now carry all Village Shuttle route information and schedules for their app users. Transit counts millions of active users in more than 200 cities worldwide, and it is now available for Village Shuttle riders to use on their phones and devices.

Upon downloading and launching the free app, Village Shuttle riders will see nearby options and departure times in big text and bright colors. Users can easily navigate the region, aided by accurate bus ETAs, trip planning, step-by-step navigation, and crowdsourced real-time information with Transit’s GO feature. The more users that use the app and opt into the “GO” feature, the more accurate the bus location will be for other app users.

The Village Shuttle’s partnership with Transit offers a comprehensive, easy-to-use and widely-adopted app for riders, which also already carries ridehail services like Uber and Lyft, route information, maps, and schedules for the neighboring Roaring Fork Transportation Authority (RFTA), and integrates with local We-Cycle stations. “The app will tie both RFTA and Village Shuttle systems together, and it will provide a seamless experience for riders in the valley,” Transportation Director, David Peckler, said. “We’re excited to offer yet another tool to help people get out of their cars and on the Village Shuttle.”

The launch of the Village Shuttle information in the Transit app comes after the agency recently published a series of other tools, including new online system maps, online trip planners, Google maps data, new winter brochures, and new summer brochures. According to the Town, this is a continued effort to attract new riders and various demographics to use the shuttle system. “The Village Shuttle is a great asset. We want to make it as user-friendly as possible,” David added. In the winter, the Village Shuttle offers 7 different regularly scheduled routes throughout the Village, all for free. Combined, the Village Shuttle carries approximately 600,000 passengers a year.

By endorsing Transit as its official app, the Village Shuttle now joins dozens of other public transit agencies across North America that have partnered with the app, including Boston’s MBTA, Baltimore’s MDOT MTA, Silicon Valley’s VTA, Metro Transit in St. Louis and Montreal’s STM.

“Partnering with a single app that prioritizes transit makes it clear to riders where they can go for information,” said David Block-Schachter, Chief Business Officer of Transit. “We’re excited to work with the Village Shuttle and to see more people using Transit as part of their daily routine.”

Transit is available to download for iPhone and Android at www.transitapp.com or at www.VillageShuttle.com

About the Village Shuttle: The Village Shuttle is a transportation service provided by the Town of Snowmass Village. In the winter season, the Village Shuttle provides seven regularly scheduled routes around the Village - for free. On-demand and late-night pick-up service is also available, for a small fee. Since its inaugural season in 1979, the shuttle system has grown from a modest skier shuttle system with just five passenger vans, to a robust transit system that now carries nearly 600,000 passengers a year.

About Transit:  Transit solves the urban commute in more than 200 cities worldwide. Users can easily navigate public transit with accurate real-time predictions, simple trip planning, and step-by-step navigation. The app also integrates other transport modes — bikesharing, carsharing and ridehail — so users can determine the best way to get from A to B. The company is based in Montréal, QC.
