Snowmass Village, Colo. – October 8, 2015 - On Tuesday, October 6th, Snowmass police received a report of a basic shoplifting which has now turned into a multi-agency investigation searching for victims throughout the Roaring Fork Valley. The first incident originated from Sundance Liquor in Snowmass Village. They reported a black male dressed as a construction worker entering the store on multiple occasions within a short time span and stealing approximately $1800 worth of alcohol.
A second Snowmass Village liquor store, Daly Bottle Shop, reported a similar theft with the same suspect. The suspect stole about $300 worth of alcohol from The Daly Bottle Shop. Both thefts occurred within minutes of each other. A review of security video in both stores confirmed the thefts.
An employee of Sundance Liquor, via an internet search, discovered a news story from Texas describing a serial liquor store shoplifter dressed like a construction worker. Snowmass Village Police used that connection to reach out to the law enforcement agency in Texas and are in the process of positively identifying the suspect in the Snowmass Village thefts. Snowmass Village Police are working with other law enforcement agencies in the Valley to determine if there are more victims in this case.
Any business realizing a similar occurrence should make a report to their local law enforcement authorities.
This investigation is on-going, and SVPD will release more details as they become available.
