[ARCHIVED] Community Connectivity Plan Proposes New Concepts for Brush Creek Road

In the spring of 2015, the Snowmass Village Town Council identified improving the overall connectivity of the community and pedestrian safety as one of their top priorities. Less than a year later, the Town’s Community Connectivity Plan (CCP) is prepared to release some initial concepts that aim to meet these goals.

The public is invited to comment on these, and other elements related to the CCP plan, at a public open house on January 27th. So far, this includes revising crosswalks, better signage, and the addition of walkways at several key intersections along Brush Creek Road. Comments from the open house will be used to edit and prioritize improvements.

The Community Connectivity Plan, or CCP, is a Town initiative that began in September 2015. The CCP is dedicated to providing a comprehensive plan that enhances pedestrian, bicycle, and transit connections, and reduce the need for vehicle travel in Snowmass Village. To do this, the CCP has been using online feedback tools to identify priorities.

“Interactive online tools, such as our wikimap, has allowed us to engage residents and guests in new and innovative ways and come up with the best solutions for the Town,” said Public Works Director and Project Manager Anne Martens. Using this feedback, the CCP has identified the Brush Creek corridor as a top priority, which correlates to Town Council goals. “Being our main thoroughfare, we understand that it can feel unsafe or difficult to cross Brush Creek road, and there are a lot of opportunities for improvement.”

The CCP is proposing four improved pedestrian crossings along Brush Creek Road. These concepts would be in addition to the roundabout at Brush Creek and Wood Road, which will also increase pedestrian connectivity. Residents and guests are encouraged to view and comment on the concepts online at tosv.com/CCP, or in person at a project open house on January 27th 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Town Hall.

If any of these basic concepts are agreed upon and receive positive feedback, the Town will still need to prioritize, budget, and schedule the projects that are deemed qualified to move forward.
