Snowmass Village, Colo. – February 18, 2017 –The Town of Snowmass Village is in the midst of updating its Comprehensive Plan, which will guide all future decisions related to land use changes and development. The Plan Snowmass project began last fall and will continue this week with what is being called a “Planapalooza,” – 6 days of workshops, focus groups, and presentations Thursday, February 23 through Tuesday, February 28.
There have been several community events so far, and the Town’s Visioning Sessions held on January 10th were attended by over 140 community members. The Town has also been soliciting feedback online at www.plansnowmass.com. According to Julie Ann Woods, the Town’s Community Development Director, many key values have emerged from the community so far, including connectivity, open space and trails, employee housing, and preserving our small-town character.
“Up to this point, we’ve just been listening to everyone,” said Julie Ann. “At Planapalooza, we will present some ideas and principles for everybody to consider, and it will be the first chance for everyone to tell us if we heard them right. We’re really excited to see what people think.”
The Planapalooza will offer several events and opportunities for the community, and they will range from large presentations at the Recreation Center to small focus groups at Town Hall. The Town encourages everyone to attend the main opening and closing presentations, and individuals who are interested in particular topics may also want to attend one or two small focus group meetings.
The opening session, or “speed planning,” workshop, will kick off Planapalooza, and it will take place at the Snowmass Village Recreation Center on Thursday, February 23rd at 5:30pm.
A series of specialty meeting focus groups will follow on Friday and Saturday, and will focus on the following topics:
Friday, February 24th (Town Hall)
- Public Infrastructure Services (9 am)
- Built Environment & Design (10:30 am)
- Business, Tourism, & the Economy (2:30 pm)
- Transportation, Mobility & Parking (4 pm)
- Housing & Lodging (5:30 pm)
Saturday, February 25th (Town Hall)
- Natural Environment & Sustainability (9 am)
- Planning Commission (10:30 am)
The Town encourages anyone who is interested in the topics above to attend and participate in the appropriate focus group at Town Hall, each of which will be approximately one hour long.
On Sunday, February 26th, the Town will be hosting an “Apres-Ski Thaw Out” public pin up and review at Town Hall from 4:00pm – 5:30pm. Here, the Team will be showcasing some initial concepts, and asking community members if things are on the right track.
The closing presentation, “Getting to the Finish,” will be the grand finale, and will provide an overview of the ideas and feedback from throughout the week, and it will also take place at 5:30pm in the Snowmass Village Recreation Center.
If you can’t make it to any of these individual meetings, the Town encourages everyone who is interested to swing by Town Hall anytime between 9:00am – 9:00pm Friday through Monday to examine the Plan Snowmass Open Studio. Team members and Town Staff will be available during the open studio to discuss the project.
All of these key dates and additional details are available online at www.plansnowmass.com.
Feedback gathered will be used to create the draft Comprehensive Plan, which will also be made available for public review at a later date. The town anticipates adopting the final plan this summer.
