Town Releases Draft Comprehensive Plan

For Immediate Release

Snowmass Village, Colo. – January 22, 2018 – After nearly a year of gathering public feedback, writing, and editing, the Town has released the draft Comprehensive Plan. It is available to read online at www.plansnowmass.com.

The 184 page document attempts to define the vision and guiding principles of the community, including “stewardship, vibrant, genuine, active and healthy, balanced, connected, and inclusive.” It also outlines challenges and priorities for the Town, including everything from affordable housing to addressing climate change. Ultimately, the Town aims to use this document and its strategies to help guide decisions related to land use development. According to the document’s executive summary, that is to keep Snowmass Village just big enough; “the Village should not grow unnecessarily (growth for growth sake) and unambiguously be ‘Just Big Enough.’”

The Town will be presenting the highlights of the document to the public in a presentation at Town Hall on Sunday, January 28th at 4pm. The Town is encouraging members of the community to attend and provide feedback. Light snacks and refreshments will be served.

There will also be two days of open houses: Monday, January 29th from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm and Tuesday, January 30th from 9:00 am – 11:00 am. During these times, members of the community are invited to stop by Town Hall, review the plan, discuss key concepts with staff, and offer their feedback.

If you can’t make it to any of these opportunities, the Town encourages everyone who is interested to leave their feedback online. Online feedback tools and additional details are available at www.plansnowmass.com by clicking on “Quick Reply.” The Town will be accepting feedback and comments for at least the next month.

The feedback gathered will then be considered for incorporation into the draft Comprehensive Plan. Afterwards, the public hearing draft will be prepared and presented to the Planning Commission and Town Council for their adoption.
