[ARCHIVED] Evacuation for Base Village Gas Leak Remains in Effect

Snowmass Village, Colo. – October 8, 2019 -  As of 9:20 am this morning, the Base Village area of Snowmass Village has been evacuated for an active gas leak located near the Treehouse Parking Lot. All Base Village properties, including the Limelight Hotel, Capitol Peak, Hayden Lodge, Lichenhearth, and Tamarack properties have been evacuated. Roaring Fork Fire Rescue, Pitkin County Sheriff, Basalt Police Department, Town staff, and the Snowmass Village Police Department personnel are on scene and monitoring the gas levels in the area. The evacuation area is not expected to expand.

It is estimated that approximately 175 people were asked to leave the area, including guests, residents, and employees. It is not currently safe for them to return to the area. If anyone has essentials that they need to access in the evacuated area, the Police Department has set in a check in and checkout area at the entrance to the Parking Garage. Residents, guests, and employees can report there to access their homes and units to briefly enter the area. Anyone entering the area will be required to check back out. Vehicles parked in the Base Village garage are not accessible.

The Snowmass Village Police Department will notify properties as soon as it is safe to return to the area. Carriage Way is closed from Wood Road up to Daly Lane at the Snowmass Mall.

Black Hills personnel are on scene and working on repairs, which will require substantial excavation work and may take until early afternoon.

The Viceroy Hotel is graciously hosting those who were asked to leave Base Village. If you wish to leave the area, the bus stop at Brush Creek and Wood Road provides 15 minute bus service to the Intercept Lot.

A map of the evacuation area will be available shortly. Updates will be posted to the Town’s Twitter page, @TownofSnowmass #BaseVillageGasLeak, and online, as they become available.

10/8/19 11:34 a.m. Update:

The map below shows the official evacuation area, which is not expected to expand. Anyone who needs to access the area must do so at the check in / out station in front of the Base Village Parking Garage.
