Mall Transit Center Progresses
Town Secures $300,000 Grant for Design WorkThe Town has successfully secured a $300,000 grant from the Colorado Department of Transportation to assist with the ongoing design and engineering work for a new Mall Transit Center. The grant will be added to funds from the EOTC to bring the project closer to reality.
After a competitive bidding process, Town staff have selected the design firm Short Elliott Hendrickson Inc (S.E.H.) to continue working on the project and prepare detailed design and engineering documents. S.E.H. is no stranger to the project, and they worked with Town staff to develop several conceptual design options for the transit center. The preferred design, deemed "Option #5," was selected after a robust community outreach process. This option blends together requirements and feedback from the Town Council, businesses, community, and stakeholders. It provides ample bus stalls to bring both RFTA and Village Shuttle buses into one pedestrian-friendly location, while also preserving all of the parking spaces in Village Lot #6.
Updated design documents are expected in early 2021. Construction on the new transit center could begin as early as spring of 2022, if approved through the land use review process in 2021.
