New Villageshuttle.com Debuts

Town Launches New Transit Website

On Thursday, March 25th, the Town launched a new and improved www.villageshuttle.com.

In addition to a fresh new look, the website is designed with users on-the-go in mind. The site was created to be extremely compatible with mobile devices to make it easier for commuters, guests, and all residents to hop on the Village Shuttle.

On the homepage, users will immediately notice a new "Plan My Trip" tool. The widget allows for individuals to enter their beginning and ending address, and find the next available bus and bus stop location closest to them. This is ideal for users that are looking to catch a ride immediately, but it also works well for individuals who plan ahead.

Using the same Plan My Trip tool on the webpage, a user can also adjust the timeframe to set their preferred arrival time. The arrival date can be set for 3 hours, 3 days, or even 3 months into the future. The trip planner will show all available transit options, including any RFTA busses.

The goal of all of this effort was to get more people on the bus, but the site also incorporates features to encourage riders to visit some of Snowmass Village's most popular attractions and destinations. New on the Village Shuttle site is a list of common destinations with links to additional information. The Snowmass Ski Area, Anderson Ranch Arts Center, Lost Forest, Snowmass Village Recreation Center, and more destinations are all connected to the new page. The project team indicated this was a direct result of their efforts to make the rider experience in Snowmass Village as seamless as possible. "Using the Village Shuttle isn't just a mode of transportation. It is part of the Snowmass Village experience," said David Peckler, Transportation Director.

The Village Shuttle remains a fare-free service through the Village, with seven regular routes during the winter season, and carries over a half million passengers each year. The new site launched just before the end of the ski season for the project team to get feedback during the peak Village Shuttle rider season. Feedback and edits will be made during the off-season, before the site goes into "summer mode."

The Town welcomes any and all feedback on the new site. If you have comments, please submit them by email.

Burnt Mountain Closes April 25th

Respect wildlife. Respect seasonal closures.

The area stretching between West Buttermilk and the Snowmass Ski Area, known as Burnt Mountain, is one of only two spots in the roughly 2.2 million-acre White River National Forest where human access is off-limits for just one critical reason – elk calving.

Elk return to this area each year to find the water, lush forage, sunshine and seclusion they need to survive, give birth and nurse their young without being startled and disrupted. The annual trail closures begin April 25 with the Tom Blake Trail, Sequel Trail and other trails in the Elk Camp/Two Creeks vicinity closed to use through June 20. Anaerobic Nightmare and the lands surrounding it are closed April 25 through June 27. The closure of the Government Trail and Sugarbowl area was extended by a week starting last year; the closure begins May 15 and continues through June 27.

The added week of the closure on the Government Trail and Sugarbowl area came at the suggestion of Colorado Parks and Wildlife, which is in the midst of a 6-year study of elk calf survival rates and is also studying the impact of recreation on elk. Pitkin County Open Space and Trails helped fund the first two years of the calf study. It’s possible the study results will lead to a recommendation to further adjust the closure dates.

Key Dates:

  • Tom Blake Trail, Sequel Trail and other trails in the Elk Camp and Two Creeks vicinity are closed April 25 through June 20. These trails and the surrounding area open June 21.
  • Anaerobic Nightmare Trail is closed April 25 through June 27. This trail and the surrounding area open June 28.
  • Government Trail No. 1980 and Sugarbowl Trail are now closed May 15 through June 27. These trails and the surrounding area open June 28.
The south portion of the Rim Trail, Highline, and Lowline trails are open year-round. Sky Mountain Park, including Seven Star Trail and the North Rim Trail, all open May 16.

Summer Events Return to Snowmass

2021 Event Lineup Announced

Last week, Snowmass Tourism announced a preliminary schedule of 2021 summer events, featuring the return of many beloved summer traditions. As additional events are confirmed, they will be announced in the coming weeks. All event details and dates are subject to change.

“We are thrilled to see so many events come back to Snowmass this summer,” says Rose Abello, Tourism Director, Snowmass Tourism. “This initial lineup is just a taste, as we continue to solidify plans for additional events and activations. And we will ‘shift’ as needed to follow state, county, and local restrictions. Some events have been reimagined, and others may have a different look and feel, but either way, summer 2021 is looking to be vibrant and fun.”
