"Get the Scoop" with Town Council

and Community Photo at August 19 Free Concert

On Thursday, August 19, 2021 before and during the Snowmass Free Concert Series, the Snowmass Village Town Council and Snowmass Tourism invite guests and locals to join the Town for two exciting community events: “Get the Scoop” with members of the Snowmass Village Town Council and the fourth annual community photo.

Your Town Council Invites you to Come "Get the Scoop"
From 5:30-7:00pm, Snowmass Village Town Council hosts “Get the Scoop.” Members of Town Council are available to meet and discuss any topic of interest with community members, while giving away free ice cream treats. All are invited to come and connect with Council members, ask questions, and provide feedback directly to their elected officials.

“One of the Town Council’s top strategic goals is to increase opportunities to listen to the community, and we’re ready to listen,” Mayor Bill Madsen said “We look forward to this event every year. It is hard to beat free music, free ice cream, and connecting with the community.”

Annual Community Photo

During intermission of the Free Concert, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Snowmass Tourism invites community members to gather on Fanny Hill for the fourth annual community photo. Participation is encouraged, rain or shine.

Be Nice and Share the Trail

Trail Etiquette Tips for the Trail

The amount of people using our trail system continues to grow at an astronomical rate. From May 1, 2019 through November 1, there were approximately 17,000 trail users on the South Rim Trail .  Over the same period in 2020, that number rose to approximately 50,000 users. In turn, reports of trail conflicts are also increasing.

Here are a few suggestions to ensure that you and everyone you may encounter on the trail are all enjoying the same amazing experiences while out on the trails.

  • Uphill traffic has the right of way
    • Trail users traveling uphill on trails always have the right of way.
  • Be Trail Aware
    • If you are someone that likes to wear headphones while hiking or biking, be sure that the volume is low enough that you can hear your surroundings.
  • Trail traffic laws
    • Bikers yield to hikers, and hikers/bikers yield to equestrian riders.  Horses are easily spooked, always approach with caution and ask the horseback rider for best options for passing safely.
  • Dogs and Leashes
    • As a reminder, there are no dogs allowed on Hawk Ridge trail. All dogs should be kept on leashes when using Snowmass Village Trails.
  • Free Bike Bell Program
    • Please stop by the Snowmass Village Recreation Center and pick up a free bike bell to alert other trail users of your presence. Trail etiquette pamphlets are also available for the taking.

Be Water Wise

SWSD Reminds Residents of Water Schedule

Rainfall has picked up lately, but the region remains in a drought. The Snowmass Water and Sanitation District is reminding residents that there is a strict watering schedule for irrigating landscape in Snowmass Village. No watering is allowed between 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. every day. Violations can reach up to $500, and can even result in a water disconnection.

Learn more and find the 2021 watering schedule online at swsd.org.

Compost Your SCRAPS

Free Composting Available Through Pitkin County

Approximately 17% of the waste headed to the Pitkin County Landfill is residential food waste. Instead of throwing your food waste away, compost it through the Pitkin County SCRAPS program.

Residents of Pitkin County can receive a FREE 6 1/2 gallon sealed and lockable food waste collection bucket, and drop off their collected compost for free. The materials are then turned into organic compost and diverted from the landfill. Learn more and get your free compost bucket at landfillrules.com.

But Caution and Care Still Advised

We've been fortunate to receive a fair amount of monsoon moisture throughout the valley, and Pitkin County fire restrictions have been temporarily lifted.

Please continue to use extreme caution with camp fires and flames.
