Winter Driving Tips

Be prepared and be safe during winter driving conditions.

The Town is gearing up for winter, and our fleet of snow plowing equipment is ready for snowfall. Are you?

To be prepared for winter driving conditions, the Snowmass Village Police Department and Public Works crews offer the following recommendations:

Winter Driving Tips:

  • Make sure your vehicle is equipped with adequate snow tires.
  • Keep your ice scraper handy in the winter. Thoroughly clean snow and ice from your windshield, windows, mirrors, and lights before driving.
  • Make sure you have plenty of de-icer windshield wiper fluid.
  • Drive carefully when icy conditions are present.
    • Approach intersections slowly, and double check for traffic and pedestrians before pulling out into an intersection or roadway.
    • Never crowd the plow. Give them space to work.
    • Don’t tailgate other vehicles. Allow for plenty of space between vehicles in case traffic slows or comes to a stop.
  • You can also catch a ride with the Village Shuttle. Drivers work hard to keep shuttles running during snow storms. And... It's free!

APWA Award

Award-Winning Roundabout

Snowmass Village Receives APWA Transportation Award.

The Colorado Chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA) recently presented the Small Community Transportation Award to the Town for the new roundabout on Brush Creek Road.

According to the APWA nomination, “the project serves as a traffic engineering example in innovation to increase traffic service levels, public safety, and pedestrian safety.” The project was also selected to receive the award due to its ability to transfer best practices to other communities, and the level of cooperation that was displayed between the developer, the Town, contractors, businesses, and the community.
