Comprehensive Plan Unveiled

Public Hearing Draft Now Live

After more than year of gathering feedback, public meetings, and making revisions, the public hearing draft of the Comprehensive Plan is now live and available for the public to download at www.PlanSnowmass.com.

The Town Council will be discussing this latest draft at their regular meeting on Monday, July 2.

Executive Summary Excerpt:
The 2018 Comprehensive Plan is designed to ensure that the small village character and unique natural splendor of Snowmass Village will be protected well into the future. The intent of this Plan is to ensure that capital projects, development proposals and strategic initiatives be evaluated through the framework created by the Aspiration Statement, the Guiding Principles, and the Just Big Enough economic analysis, fundamentally understanding the obligation to only grow as necessary and only be “Just Big Enough”. The fundamental goal of the 2018 Comprehensive Plan is to recognize the intimate connection the Town has with the environment, to focus on conservation first and allow a limited amount of development and redevelopment in appropriate locations to assure our future as a sustainable resort community. This latest draft includes the guiding principles that we heard from you, and will guide development in the future.

Trail Etiquette

Electric Bikes On Paved Trails

Class 1 E-Bikes Now Allowed on Paved Trails

Earlier this month, the Town Council voted to begin allowing Class 1 electric bikes (E-Bikes) on our local paved trails (e.g. Brush Creek Trail, Owl Creek Trail, Melton Trail). Class 2 and Class 3 electric bikes are still prohibited on all trails, and all electric bikes are prohibited on dirt / natural surface trails. These rules are consistent with Pitkin County and apply to all regional trails. Learn more by following the link below.

  1. Class 1 - Pedal Assist Only
  2. Class 2 - Throttle with Max Speed of 20 mph
  3. Class 3 - Throttle with Max Speed Greater than 20 mph

No matter what you're riding, make sure you follow basic trail etiquette. Bikes should always yield the trail to hikers and horses, and downhill bikers should yield the trail to uphill bikers. All bikers should ride at speeds that are under control and safe.

Noxious Weeds

Noxious Weed Season

Help Prevent the Spread of Invasive Weeds

The Town works hard with landowners and Pitkin County to prevent noxious weeds from spreading, but we can't do it alone. Everyone should take part in healthy land management, and the Town believes in assisting landowners to achieve this. The most effective way for you to help is to treat your own property, and there are numerous resources to help you get started.
