Strategic Goals Refreshed

Town Council Adopts New Strategic Goals

After each election, the Snowmass Village Town Council sits down to discuss, create, and adopt strategic goals for the future of Snowmass Village. Recently, the newly elected Town Council finalized their goal statements for the upcoming term.

Many of the same focus areas continue to find their place in the strategic goal statement, including: affordable workforce housing, the environment, resiliency, community-building, safety, and providing opportunities for community engagement. The following is an excerpt from the recently adopted goal statement:

The Town Council is dedicated to maintaining and advancing the positive momentum the community has created over the last several years.  This will be achieved, in part, by keeping a commitment to the Town Council identified values of the Village: Fun, community focused, family-friendly, thriving, charming, resilient, safe, emotionally connected, nimble, adaptable, balanced, and unique

Progress will be made by a pledge to work with the community to develop the detail necessary to implement the strategic initiatives outlined in the 2018 Comprehensive Plan.

A Win-Win for Housing and Homeowners

TOSV Utilizes New Down-Sizing Policy for Deed Restricted Homes

In 2019, the TOSV Housing Department adopted a new Deed-Restricted Housing Down-Sizing Policy to create a win-win for homeowners and the community’s housing inventory. The policy was developed after the Town saw members of the workforce approaching later stages in their careers and becoming “empty-nesters.” The new policy now allows for these homeowners, that may have more bedrooms than they need, to easily downsize to other deed-restricted homes in the community.

This is accomplished by awarding these homeowners the highest priority, after "in-complex bids," and by not counting their existing home-equity against asset caps. The result is a win-win by allowing the homeowner to cash out equity in their larger home, while successfully finding a smaller unit to call home. The first successful downsize recently took place in the recent Coffey Place lottery. The owners of a 3 bedroom home in the Crossings subdivision downsized into a brand new 2 bedroom in the newly constructed Coffey Place subdivision.

The Town hopes other homeowners will follow suit and take advantage of this new policy. If you are interested in downsizing, you can find details on the Town website (tosv.com), or by contacting Betsy Crum, Housing Director.

Doo Doo the Right Thing

Pick Up and Pack Out Dog Waste

Pet waste is spotted along trails too often, and the Town is asking pet owners to doo doo the right thing to make sure it isn't left behind.

Dogs are welcome on select Town trails, on a leash, but it is their owner's responsibility to make sure they don't leave anything behind.

The poop fairy doesn't visit Snowmass Village trails, but Trail Rangers do, and they are stepping up enforcement. Failure to pick up pet litter can result in a fine and mandatory court appearance. If the situation arises, make sure you doo doo the right thing and pick up after your dog.

New Rapid Flashing Beacons Underutilized

In an effort to increase pedestrian safety, the Town has installed rapid flashing beacons at seven different pedestrian crosswalks in Snowmass Village. However, they can only increase safety when activated and used properly.

Activating the crosswalk beacons, even in good visibility conditions, alerts approaching vehicles from far away. This allows motorists to take the extra time to slow down and come to a complete stop. This can be extremely important in the winter when the roads can be icy. Please use the rapid flashing beacons when they are available, every time.

CDC Implements New Mask Mandate for Shuttles

The Village Shuttle has been requiring passengers wear masks on all shuttles since the spring of 2021. Earlier this year, the CDC issued further orders that requires passengers to wear appropriate and complete masks while awaiting, boarding, or traveling on all public transportation. Masks must cover both the nose and mouth, and be made of tightly woven fabric that is secured. Ski buffs don't cut it, and not wearing a proper mask can result in denial of boarding or removal from the Shuttle. Learn more at www.villageshuttle.com.
