New EV station at Town Park

Charging the Community

Town Installs 3 New EV Charging Stations

With the help of the Colorado Energy Office and the Charge Ahead Colorado grant program, the Town has successfully finished installing three new EV charging stations. One charger was placed in Lot 3 of the Village Lots, one was installed at the TOSV Housing Office, and the third station was installed at the Town Park day skier parking lot. Each station is a level two charger, and has two separate power chords to charge two Electric Vehicles at a time. Download the chargepoint app to find the exact charger locations and costs to charge up your EV.

The total project and installation costs, of approximately $43,000, were over 50% supported by outside grant funds. In total, the Town received over $27,000 in grant funds to support the project. With this funding support, adding EV charging station options in Snowmass Village just made sense, according to the project manager and Town Transit Supervisor, Sam Guarino. "Over the past year, the existing EV stations that are currently in Town Park and the Village Lots have seen considerable uptick in usage. These 3 additional stations are expected to meet the current demands, as well as provide for future use in the Town's housing complexes and fleet."

The EV's are also intended to help fuel switching easier for the community, and help the Town meet our ongoing environmental and carbon emission reduction goals. The Town also has future plans to install additional EV stations in strategic locations throughout Town. "This is a great start, and we're delighted to bring this alternative fuel infrastructure to the community," added Sam.

A Green New Years Resolution

Free Composting Drop Off Available January 1st

Join the community in a New Years Resolution to begin composting in 2022! Beginning January 1, 2022, the Town will begin hosting its very own residential drop-off location to compost residential food waste.

The bear-proof container will be located at the Public Works facility, and there will be NO ADDITIONAL COSTS to our customers for the use of this service and dropping off compostable materials. The container will be accessible 24/7, and you can make a drop off anytime!

The composting dumpster will take the place of the electronics recycling container that has previously been available. Electronics can still be recycled and disposed of properly at the Pitkin County Landfill, and they offer a waste allowance program to make it free for qualifying residents.

Please visit www.tosv.com to learn more about the waste allowance program, disposing of hazardous waste, and how to begin composting in the New Year.

Bob Sirkus in Remodeled Home

A Little Insulation Goes A Long Way

Councilman Bob Sirkus Recognized for Energy Efficiency Efforts through CORE

When Bob Sirkus and his wife bought a townhouse on the Snowmass Golf Course in the fall of 2020, they knew it would need a full renovation. The Snowmass Club Townhomes were built in 1982, and while their three-bedroom, 2,900-square-foot unit had likely had a few facelifts over the years by multiple owners, “frankly we had no idea what was in the ceiling, behind the walls, or anything,” says Sirkus, a Snowmass Village Town Council member who represents the body on the CORE Board of Directors.

Sirkus fully intended to improve the home’s energy efficiency — he has been conscious of making environmentally responsible home choices since installing a heat pump to cool a home he had built in the 1970s in upstate New York — but wasn’t sure exactly what could be done and to what extent until they dug in.
