Connecting the Nodes
In early 2023, the Town Council adopted and updated their goals statement. The Strategic Initiatives of Snowmass Village include continuing to improve the multimodal connections between Base Village, the Mall and the Center. One of the Council’s goals is to Ensure Public Spaces and Facilities Meet our Community’s Unique Character. This goal also states: The Town Council will strive to create and improve public spaces and facilities that promote health, safety, education, happiness, and enhance community character and connectivity. The Connecting Village Nodes project aligns with these goals and initiatives.
The overall project goal is to create more functional and intuitive multimodal connections between the Snowmass Center, Base Village and the Snowmass Mall to increase economic vitality and better the visitor and local experience. The Town Staff released a Request for Proposals for the Connecting the Nodes project in early 2024 and selected DJ&A.
July 15 Project Update
The current phase of this project is focused on developing alternatives for the connection between the Snowmass Center and Base Village including the possible use of the easement between Snowmass One and the Capital Peak Lodge. the project team has completed two reports/memos: an Existing Conditions Report and an Alternatives Memo.
The existing conditions report served as a basis for design and a record of past efforts to improve multimodal connections within the project corridor. The Alternatives Memo built off past studies and further investigated different levels of improvements for the corridor. The memo includes different Foundational Improvements and Grand Investments. The alternatives listed within the memo can be combined with one another or selected individually. The memo is intended to be a menu of improvements to combine multiple improvements if desired to improve the connection between Base Village and the Snowmass Center. Improvements are evaluated for costs, functionality, usability, seasonality, etc.
The project team has met with Stakeholders including Aspen Ski Company, East West Partners, Snowmass Center, and RFTA to discuss and obtain feedback on the Alternatives Memo.
As the project progresses, the team will commence a public outreach campaign to gain feedback from the public on the alternatives. The team will document community input and present those findings to stakeholders and Council, with the ultimate goal of selecting a preferred alternative for further design and implementation.

Community Connectivity Plan
In response to the 2015 Town Council Goal Statement that set the goal to “take the necessary steps to improve the overall connectivity of the community”, the Town Council began the development and formal review of the 2016 draft Community Connectivity Plan (CCP).
In July 2016, the Town of Snowmass Village Planning Commission passed Resolution NO. 07, Series 2016: finding that the draft 2016 Community Connectivity Plan (CCP) is consistent with the 2010 Comprehensive Plan (the most recent plan at the time) and recommended the adoption of the Draft CCP to the Town Council.
Over the intervening years, the document was reviewed a number of times by the Town Council, but there was never a consensus to adopt the document. After adopting the 2021 Town Council Goal statement, the Council again started to review the document. The CCP is to be a planning document that recommends clear goals and objectives that will guide existing operations and inform the prioritization of future projects.
Each of these individual projects will continue to be considered through the annual budget process.
